No one should be above the law especially our law enforcement. Thanks for reporting. If wrongdoings are proven, there needs to be consequences.

Agreed. But in van der Kamp's case he is clever enough to push his retirement out to having been in office for six months - which will boost his PERS retirement monthly - and then retire before DPSST in late July begins the credential revocation process which includes an appeal process, as well. Sheriff van der Kamp will sail off into the sunset happy as a clam, his PERS and unrelated local real estate business providing a very comfortable living on Bonaire, and never look back.

Another protected Bend pretender. Retire?! Seriously? He ought to be prosecuted, he should have to pay back every political contribution made to him etc., etc. Just another failed politician.

Wondering out loud how men like this manage to get into the positions of responsibility they do…

I am sure his PERS is secure and will go a long way in his new foreign paradise.

An excellent and timely article from fellow independent journalist Jeff Eager and a thoughtful follow on to my own coverage on this two weeks ago.

"Interesting - apparently Sheriff and real estate developer van der Kamp offers he has a home on the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean. He is reported to be giving consideration to relocating to the island as his DPSST decertification process comes to a conclusion on May 22nd. Bonaire is a Dutch municipality of 24,000 residents and a lovely place to retire to if true. There is a van der Kamp presence on Bonaire, same spelling the Sheriff has recently adopted in yet another evolution of how he spells his last name."

You all seem to think that he is guilty, while I see the Oregon political machine getting rid of someone that wouldn't tow the current line.

It was Deschutes County DA Steve Gunnels who determined by independent investigation that van der Kamp is culpable for lying under oath on at least three occasions (court video). And DPSST that in its own independent investigation, as initiated on Gunnels' findings and forwarded to the Department for review, that likewise determined he indeed lied under oath and omitted his La Mesa PD certified time, training, and experience with them when applying for DCSO now 23 years ago - in a 9-page synopsis plus multi page report - https://www.oregon.gov/dpsst/CJ/CertActions/van%20der%20Kamp.44640.pdf

Is this DA one of the ones who was paid off by Soros? This all happened 23 years ago?

If an officer lies under oath, in a court of law, regardless of how long ago it occurs it is a termination offense as well as a Brady Law / Doctrine violation which can also result in sanction or termination.

Consequences:

Serious legal ramifications: A police officer who commits perjury is subject to the same legal consequences as any other citizen who lies under oath, including potential fines or jail time.

Loss of credibility: An officer's reputation for trustworthiness is crucial, and lying under oath can damage their credibility as a witness, making their testimony unreliable in court.

Job termination: Getting caught lying under oath can lead to disciplinary action, including termination from the police department.

Civil lawsuits: If a police officer's perjury leads to a wrongful conviction or harm, victims may have grounds to sue the officer and/or the police department for damages

Gosh. I’m surprised he didn’t go all-out and get a security gig in Caracas just a hop, skip and a jump away.
