Cage-free eggs will allow lots of sensitive upper middle class young women to finally let go of that exquisite source of vicarious suffering and focus on tending other neuroses in ways that will ultimately make regular people’s lives worse.

Brilliant. This part actually explains a lot of what Oregon's done since 2020:

"_______ will allow lots of sensitive upper middle class young women to finally let go of that exquisite source of vicarious suffering and focus on tending other neuroses in ways that will ultimately make regular people’s lives worse."

Oregon used to be an agricultural state. Now it's just a Funny Farm.

Am I the only person almost embarrassed to admit I live in Oregon? Does anyone else ever clarify that, even though they do live here, they aren’t a radical idiot?

you should see the eyebrows rise when I mention to my Louisiana neighbors that I live in Oregon. Of course, most folks equate Oregon with Portland

You are correct Kendall. The term 'State of Portland' was often used when I moved here in 1980. At that time it was a way of recognizing the power of one city over the politics in Oregons capitol. It's still true today though Portland now has stiff competition from other leftist cities in the Willamette Valley. The new Rio Linda, if you get my drift.

Moved to TN from Oregon almost 3 years ago. People here have a hard time believing that what the media says about Oregon is actually true because it's usually so asinine.

I usually say I live on the dry side of Oregon; i.e. the sane side.

I am always amazed at our progressive brethren's willingness to add costs to those least able to afford it to further their own virtue cred.

Terrific report, Jeff.

Progressives are dreamers, love to "reimagine," and have unlimited power to try to make reality fit their ever-changing theologies. What they cannot seem to do is actually make a government run--at least for the benefit of the average mope who's paying taxes (which is something that non-profits and developers don't). There are no built-in limits to progressivism, no guard rails (since nothing is "right" or "wrong"--just power-plays), and no citizenry smart enough to change the trajectory of decline.

That leads national players--from the Humane Society to George Soros--to find Oregon an easy target: avaricious pols with no ethical boundaries, collapsing media, dumb voters. Perfect!

Nowhere is the disconnect greater between what progressives say they will do and what their government actually does than in Oregon.

Jeff, thanks for an astute and amusing piece on the folly of the Oregon legislature. Laws like this assures that we retain our national reputation as the silliest state.

Oregon !!!!! Claims hat homelessness is priority . Too bad they counter blance it by enacting laws and regulations that are pushing low income people more and more towards homelessness. Like eggs regulations an example is allowing renting increases of 10%. Low income and fixed income at 3.5% increases. OKAY OREGONIANS FEEL GOOD ABOUT WORLD PROBLEMS AND CREATE LOCAL PROBLEMS. i.e. space rent in a senior citizen mobile home has from $250 in 2018 to $700 in 2025.
