What a great pairing! I am looking forward to the episode.
I was thinking how interesting it would be if Mike Schmidt would agree to be a guest on Kristin's podcast or yours. As hosts, you'd both be respectful and - to Schmidt's regret - very well informed. Schmidt owes it to voters to appear in a forum that's not hosted by a fan. Well, a voter can dream, right?
I wonder if all the negative crime and educational social factors had anything to do with Intel recently cutting a $25B deal with Israel? Even if Portland (and the State) turns around this horrible situation and reputation, it will never recover its past success.
I think any large business, actually any business, looking to expand in or relocate to Oregon takes very seriously those factors, as well as tax environment and looming budget crunch and PERS shortfalls, which will fuel a push for even higher taxes. Welcome to the death spiral.
