Playing politics with the lives of addicts and safety of the citizens. This will re-enforce the drug cartels belief that Oregon is pro-illicit drugs and free game for distribution.

Both parties should be ashamed, and some members more so than others. I hope they know businesses and families with the means are looking to exit this fatally flawed state. Drugs, tolls and taxes, the trifecta of demise.

Disgusting games

Thanks for a great analysis. Besides the behavior of that legislator changing his vote for political reasons, the problem is the democrats in order to protect themselves from the wrath of their progressive wing, have written another ineffective law, and added a considerable amount of expense.

Great reporting from the heart of the sausage factory. Another reason to pony up the subscription for Jeff's 'stack.

There are a number of stories that are no-gos for conventional media in this state:

Nonprofits as political actors in violation of their tax-exempt status (Oregon Food Bank, here's lookin' atyah!).

The impact of cartel money laundered through various cutouts, which is the true story of 110.

The casual corruption of folks such as Sen Wyden (Jeff has been the only voice to follow the senator's shenanigans with FTX).

The curious, disproportionate power of racist politics and the abrogation of the 14th amendment.

List goes on and on...but the basic question is the mediocrity--indeed, self-destructive stupidity--of the state's voters, especially in Portland which, god help us, calls the shots.

It is very, very tough to move a political machine as entrenched as the state's radical-Democratic party. There is absolutely no upside for anyone outside the machine to actually enter the political arena unless they have a bullet-proof income and a stomach for the wilderness. As well as a clean legal record, because the machine (through its storm troopers in Antifa and other muscle-outfits) will root it out.

Independent and tough-minded journalists are in very short supply...Jeff's one of them. Hope he endures.

Thanks, Richard! I hope I endure too. You know something I don't? :-)

I guess my real anger is caused by seeing that fat and happy diphthong smiling. I hope all his druggie friends are all safe and anesthetized now; those that aren't dead, at least.

Exactly! You beat me to it. His smugness is sickening.

And entirely unjustified

Chances the dem's fix any of this other than pander is about zero. Maybe a series of initiative petitions addressing repeal of 110 and essential codifying the republican (sane) proposal coupled with a good add campaign and ideally during a regular election cycle to remind the clueless just what the Dems have wrought would be nice.
