Ellen Rosenblum didn't meet volunteer hours requirement for a 10% bump in benefits from OR's PERS system, but seeks an exception consistent with a "special arrangement" struck before she became AG
Thx, Richard. I don't believe she was receiving judicial PERS benefits while working as AG, but I guess I should check out the website Josh mentioned in his comment.
Willyweak... they're a JOKE. And Zusman and Nigel are both quiet, smug, white, liberal racists. What they both did to my good friend Fred Stewart, a truly good man, was a total racist hit job. But I got back at them, and poor old Nigel has suffered the long term consequences of being called the Liar that he was... LOL...
Gee, as a 40-year PERS employee (anyone can look up my years of service, final salary and current pension online:
MARQUIS, JOSHUA K (current gross pension) monthly $6,006 Date of retirement, Jan. 1 2019,
Tier One 365 months working under Full Formula (another 40 months lost to another system) - last salary - $139,864 with an annual pension of $72,072 which represents 52% of my top pay as a DA.
I knew, as did Ellen, that government lawyers don't get particularly generous pensions, but compared to private industry they aren't bad and I would be concerned if any one politician got "special consideration."
Someone needs to place the Chief Justice under oath and inquire about the "special consideration" supposedly negotiated prior to Rosenblum taking the AG job. Since both were lawyers, I can only trust that the "deal" was reduced to writing...
One weird thing about this story is Rosenblum's portrayal of it as a back room deal, and the Statesman Journal (and others) just went with it. Like, ok, you have a special arrangement? Cool.
Journalism is your forte Jeff. Too bad you could never get a job with any of the legacy media outfits. Too honest, unbiased and truthful, my friend. And, Rosenblum obviously is writing her own benefit package with the backing of her two bff Senators.
Keep the truth coming. Time for you to look into new Portland City Mayor Keith Wilson who has already backed down on getting the city employees back to the office. If he can't handle the local unions how is he going to fare against Antifa and the homeless advocates when he attempts to start moving the unsheltered homeless into night shelters?
Thanks, Char! I only dip into Portland city politics every so often, as there are others who do a good job covering stuff up there, and I've never lived in/around Portland.
UPDATE 1/8/25 - Yesterday afternoon, after I published this article, the Oregon Supreme Court approved Ellen Rosenblum as senior judge despite the fact she did not complete the required pro bono service within five years of retiring as a judge in 2011. Supreme Court staff also clarified the 75% retirement benefit for senior judges is an upper limit. The upper limit is 65% for retired judges who are not approved as senior judges.
Thanks Jeff. Your work will likely encourage me to leave this state sooner than later. Can anyone recommend an Oregon or Portland paper that is not total trash?
just more of the same in Oregon.
Was she drawing on the judicial PERS account as AG?
Since the Supreme Court is a member of the progressive machine, do not expect anything public and no coverage whatsoever in WillyWeek.
Great reporting, Jeff.

Thanks, Josh. What's the URL for the PERS website?
It works for anyone retired under PERS (excludes some cash outs) Enter “oregonlive.com + PERS” on Google...

Gosh! I always thought Democrats were against back room deals .....

Thx, JR! I don't need no stinking legacy media job. Oregon Roundup, unlike most legacy outlets, is growing.
Independent journalism is now the media.
Also, Rosenblum gets a federal pension for the nine years or so she was an assistant U.S. attorney (1980-1989).
And regular (non-judicial) Oregon PERS for her AG stint.
does she also get a boost from old 2020 in his social security boondoggle?

You're lucky! 😄
These demonrats will take everything from you WITH A SMILE! Disgusting! LIVE WITHIN YOUR DAMN MEANS!
They went to the same charm school.
First of all, GREAT choice for a photo, (always a tricky but fun process). She looks like a Dingbat... LOL...
Why do all of the woke dingbats like her all look the same and wear the same friggin' glasses?
Standardized glasses, issued by the Oregon DNC. Part of uniform.
She didn't do the work and should not receive compensation. I am sure we will see the corruption roll on though.
PERS is going to be the death of the non-bureaucrat middle class in this state.
Thank you for bringing so much of the corruption and state government to light

speechless...

Well, some of the comments (not the articles) in Willamette Week are good, LOL.
Tyler, nope. Old media with new progressive writers (they are not investigative journalists) are one and the same as the DPO. One huge echo chamber.
Prehaps a corruption or incompetence bonus ? Asking for a friend
