Oregon Roundup readers knew soon-to-be-former Shemia Fagan was ethically challenged before it was cool. Her biggest conflict of interest of all continues to threaten Oregon.
Thank you Jeff for alerting us to the dark side of our state’s government. Amazes me the level of cover-up, whether regionally or country-wide exists to deceive the general public. How many times have we heard from Mayorkas that the border is secure? Oregon needs you and your truth seeking.
Is it possible that Democratic party officials, elected or otherwise, having seen Fagan's demise as inevitable, seized on the case with the least political implications for the party as the rationale for forcing her resignation? It's not that cannabis consulting was insufficient cause, but rather that the FTX affiliated donation had wider implications for the party. Plus, there's the case you covered about forcing the resignation of one of her subordinates because she (the sub) stuck to the rule about late payment of the voter pamphlet entries, another case that could ripple out into other
Yes, that occurred to me. I think this was an easy one for the media to get behind because there was no risk of diminished Dem control. Kotek gets to appoint the replacement, and Fagan would have been a vulnerable incumbent in '24. The DPO stuff is different, in that it implicates Democrats generally and Kotek specifically, since at least some of that DPO money helped her win the gov race. So, yes, kind of a freebie for Dems and the media but they've declined to take many freebies before, so it's reassuring to see some action.
The “Above The Law” seems to be working quite well for Democrats in Oregon. With Fagan being the sacrificial lamb, they hope it will result in things returning to normal with their party remaining forever in charge. Makes you wonder where the silent Republicans are hiding? To me, this whole thing would be a gift that would keep on giving.
GOP legislative leadership called for Fagan's resignation once the La Mota story broke. They're pushing for a joint oversight committee to run stuff like this to ground. They're trying but their influence in the minority of a part-time legislature is limited. Oregon would benefit from both a more adversarial political media and better (some?) legislative oversight. That was one of the big lessons of Covid, I think.
Some kind of accounting for the endless millions spent on homelessness by Oregon and local govs would be good. Not sure if I'm good enough at math to do it though!

Thanks, Neil!
Keep up the great work! Something tells me this is just the beginning of the corruption in the DPO. 😬
Thanks, Jessica!
It seems that anything benefitting Oregon just isn’t in the cards right now. Unless somebody can cut through the media fog. Christine almost did it.

Great work Jeff! Please continue and keep digging. There are a few more interesting topics out there that the voters need to be enlightened on.
Thanks, Shayne! I'll keep trying to enlighten!
Excellent coverage
, Hope against experience for Kotek to appoint someone who believes ethics is more than a fig leaf
Jeff, here’s an idea for the next can of worms..
An update with Deschutes County Coordinated Houseless Response Office; coordinator outlines work so far

Thank you! I have read your posts for months. They are most appreciated.
Thanks so much for reading, Beverly!
