Oregon Roundup exclusively reported on race-based criteria Saturday; bill to remove criteria introduced by Speaker day after Roundup sought comment from Education Dept; hearing set for tomorrow
Jeff, you're too modest to explicitly claim your inquiry caused this near instantaneous legislative response. And we can never prove that cause and effect. But I can reasonably assume it's all on you, Mr Roundup. Gratitude. Appreciation. March on!
I’m not a Trump fan but I got to think that fear of the new federal focus on stuff like this helped make it happen. Of course that was only after Jeff made it public!
No doubt the fear of losing federal funding was the primary mover here. We're seeing uncharacteristically moderate stuff here in WA, too. It's hard to overstate how much West Coast states have benefited from federal largesse over the decades.
Amazing how this program basically says “asians need not apply” . Do they know how much racially illegal stuff is in statute or bills? Sb 569 I just saw funding for racial non profits to help business compete for race based preference. Summer school is a great start! Good work!
I do not know what is more unexpected: that the legislature revised the law by deleting the reverse-racist elements or that the Oregon Department of Education intervened.
I hope the Oregon legislature approves the amendments and that Kotek signs them into law. Since this is Oregon and progressives control the state house, it will not be surprising if some lawmakers and witnesses make a full-throated defense of Kendian remedial discrimination.
I wonder whether any other educational programs in Oregon give preferential treatment to people "from racial or ethnic groups that have historically experienced academic disparities".
A lot of programs sneak racial criteria into their operations. For instance, Friends of Family Farmers (FoFF) say they work toward a “more resilient, diversified, and equitable food system in Oregon.” They were started by a few farmers, most of whom were white people, but as soon as young college-aged woke employees took over, they started screwing white people on behalf of every other category of skin color. Because... historical oppression. Which is a bit ridiculous when you consider Hispanic people. They are literally the descendants of people who came to the new world and conquered indigenous people. So how do Hispanic people get to claim they are oppressed? Because they have brown skin? The countries they live in have fascist oppression of poor people. That's the actual world wide oppressive framework.
FoFF has been criticized for racism against white people, so now they surreptitiously promote the interests of other groups. For instance, they give you special help if you belong to one of their perceived oppressed groups. But they don't advertise that because they still want donations from white people. They're staff, true believers in everything woke, will tell dark skinned people all the ways the organization promotes their interests at the expense of white people.
Rogue Farm Corps is another group that is racist against white people. They have special programs that help “people of color” access federal and state funds to better compete against white skinned farmers.
All these groups should be reported to the IRS for violating the law. Racism is racism, even if you are racist against white people.
Jeff, you are hugely racist to call out this official anti-racist educational program put together by our state’s anti-racist, pro-teachers’ union legislators and governor, especially without concurrently proposing taxes be increased to help our disadvantaged, racially and ethnically inferior children from the ever-lowering educational bar our state has set for them to climb under. You are a despicable human being and undeserving of calling yourself a journalist in the tradition of our state’s other media publications such as the Pulitzer-winning, anti-racist, feminist Oregonian. Your disingenuousness disgusts me and I only wish I could do more to draw citizen attention to your retributive claims against our state’s anti-racist, gender-inclusive Democrat legislators and governor. I will be watching you and closely following your “journalism” hereafter, apostate.
they are NOT done. check out the new self confession page that is now part of your Oregon tax return. I'm not sure what their purpose is other than to separate us all by race and ethnic group.
Another case here illustrating one of many problems with a one-party state. "It's in our state constitution, but..." yeah, whatever. The Feds keeping them honest is what it took (and you, good job!)
Are folks beginning to wake up to the fact that DEI is the foundation to this problem? DEI enforces differences within a population, emphasizing ethnicity especially. This is also typical government, create a problem through incompetence then legislate another layer of bureaucracy to fix what government broke. I just wonder how much of every dollar spent in this program reaches the student?
Yes. I grew up in So Cal in the 60's and 70's. Summer school was an option that we ended up looking forward to because these classes made education fun. We had learning labs, making microscopes etc.
This should be offered All our children, when they need help, they need help and we as a society will benefit in the not-so-distant future.
You seem to be supporting rolling back any Reconstruction efforts, which is wrong (efforts to undermine anti-racist measures). The word “race” is not in your highlighted passages. But if racial groups have been historically neglected (spoiler alert: they have), then helping these children remains a priority. Along with generally impoverished and disadvantaged groups. I especially say this given the racist trolls commenting on your thread, who would vehemently deny this obvious observation.
Hi, Cl. Definitely not against rolling back Reconstruction efforts. In fact, the 14th Amendment, adopted during Reconstruction, forbids racial discrimination. It's the discrimination I'd like to roll back. I think America works better when we try to treat everyone the same regardless of what they look like. I don't think racial discrimination can make up for past racial discrimination against other groups, either. Thanks for stopping by!
race is just another way to separate us. if Oregon were serious, they would stick with the real problems, disadvantaged people of ANY color or ethnicity.

😍 Rah Rah Sis Boom Bah....time to get this crap out of our educational system.
Outstanding work sir. Keep the light shining.
Journalism holding government actors accountable is exactly what Oregon needs.
Thank You Jeff!
a small step for Oregonians, a giant step for Justice. well done!

Nice work Jeff! Glad to see $ will now go to those most in need and not be apportioned based on one’s skin color.

Makes you wonder what we HAVEN’T discovered/uncovered…
Excellent work!

Jeff, you’ve got it! I agree that one small voice (yours) along with the fear of losing federal money motivated our legislators

“Race is divisive!” say the racists who want to preserve white privilege through a phony “race-blind “ ideology.
