My mother passed last spring and I am the executor of the estate. My parents having been blue collar manufacturing workers worked hard for everything they had and paid taxes for every bit of it. Their pensions were small and their 401k savings pretty modest. However, by the value of property alone put the estate value closer to the $1 million threshold than I would have expected, at the time of my mother’s passing I was completely unaware of that threshold. Even a tiny 5 acre farm would easily exceed $1 million threshold.

I’m weary of a tax system that penalizes hard work and prosperity that almost demotivates people to stay middle class which I suspect the Democrats prefer so as to keep you in their governmental “Protections” or control.

The migration is suffering because Oregon penalizes ambition, success and innovative energy causing people to seek friendlier places. I’ve had several friends and acquaintances move to Idaho, Montana, Texas, etc.

A suggested amendment to the bill: Have the tax exempt 1 single family home on a contiguous parcel of land. It’s not perfect but it would help a lot of people pass their home and the land it sits on to their children.
