Ah but will the 7 supreme court justices, political appointees all, bite the hand that appointed them

Exactly. This is the problem. The Democrats have a death grip on the state judiciary which will rubber stamp anything they do.

Based on past rulings on gas tax expenditures, they may actually enforce the Constitution. We'll see what the nutso Democrats come up with.

Thanks, Jeff, for providing solid ground for legislators (the sane and honest ones) to try to repel this gigantic hoodwink.

“… just 14 months before voters will decide whether to re-elect her.“

And now, let us pray. Prior to her (first) election as governor, Kotek had to, and did, pull back her public appearances and persona, almost completely for a year or two because her personality is so off-putting most people just flat out didn’t like her, for good reason. They once again get to see “who she really is.”

The question that arises is: How can the money generated from the raise in taxes be used for salaries for employees of ODOT? ODOT does not employ construction personnel, and the saving of jobs to assuage the SEIU would be limited to those directly involved in construction or maintenance, probably a limited number.

there should be plenty of money for the frontline workers. where did it go?

Well, the State caved into SEIU just a little while ago with big pay raises for next year, so that horse has fled the barn. Naturally Tina wants to use the moneys to pay for staff salaries.

As usual, with Democrats the Constitution is just an advisory document, to be followed in spirit if the actual wording gets in the way. See, e.g., the nonsensical Supreme Court ruling regarding whether legislators who walked out could run for office in the next term.

What a cluster fracas. A hand full of legislators ventured to the courtyard this morning to the North side of the perpetual construction project called the Capital, to the small no tax rally and commented that the process in question was being changed by the hour.

The majority party cannot be trusted with our tax dollars. They have lost all confidence of the people and must be voted out of power. Republicans supporting this lie, shame on you!

having been in the business, albeit over 25 years ago, I can vouch for "agency operations" exceeding the restrictions on "road construction and maintenance". most of the pressure came from the Feds with all their bells and whistles for extraneous fillips like view turn-outs, scenic designations and similar frills. it doesn't seem to have changed. getting people and goods from one place to another safely and expeditiously is definitely second place in the concept of transportation. things have changed for the worst. if you can't have productive businesses, push tourism: cheap labor and no product.

The roads are bad in Oregon.
