The left has [almost] perfected the system to stay in control forever. The mail in ballots and filthy voter rolls are one cog in the machine. Good point Kathleen.
There is little reason to doubt that they will get Republican votes. Everything is negotiable. Today two House Republicans voted for a resolution honoring the contributions of black drag queens. This after a dance and lip sync number on the House floor by two black drag queens and a 30 minute speech by the sponsor, Travis Nelson, where he read the entire resolution noting, among others Diva Simone Slaughter, Anastasia Dubois Rosebud, Kourtni Capree Duv, Sheniqua Volt and Stefhannie Mercury DuPont Shade. Oh, I left out Poison Waters and Lady Elaine Peacock. House Rep Javadi, who also voted to keep gay porn in schools, rose to praise the measure and Kevin Mannix of all people voted for it. Many other Republicans were off the floor but not one spoke against this bizarre waste of taxpayer money. For the right price the needed votes should be available. In a committee today during discussions of a bill intended to close gun stores, Senator Mike McLane noted "When this bill passes.." signaling that the Republicans have no intention of walking out to put the brakes on this madness. Even though in a few short days they will face NO sanctions if they do. Who needs Democrats really?
I keep looking for the tipping point. Guess it isn't here yet going by your comment. Thanks for the update on the continuously dysfunctional State House!
Mike McLane has been showing his true colors since 2019. He was amply rewarded by then-Gov. Kate Brown with a judgeship. Now he’s back. What kind of reward is he looking for this time?
And Mannix — if he wants to make himself useful, he should acknowledge that the Republicans’ biggest mistake was sticking their snouts into the uteri of all Oregon females. Even Mother Nature aborts.
His comments sheds light on the liberal mindset - the voters are children, need to listen and do what they are told. The politicians are the authoritarian parents who know what is good for us and don't care if the medicine is bitter. We are in a state that has regressed in maturity, perhaps because it is easier, feels good emotionally and one doesn't have to make difficult, rational choices when weighing benefits and tradeoffs.
...and today GuvTina had the stones to say that Multnomah county should scale back its "Preschool for all" tax because "the wealthy" are bailing out of the state. Which was the most predictable outcome of the latest, "You're Too Damned Rich" taxes. Not her dumbest statement, but close (mostly by excluding her waffles about her 'wife').
Progressives have no built-in guardrails and they tend to go in a straight line, like berserk bulldozers, until they meet an immovable object (which has yet to happen in Oregon, and probably never will, given the sorry state of the "loyal opposition").
They are a classic political machine--arrogant, intellectually dead, avaricious, secretive.
Their opponents--such as they are--have no real political philosophy, beyond "Leave Us the Hell Alone," which isn't much of a way to build a coalition.
Political machines run for a very long time until (a) they blow up over some spectacular misstep or (b) they die off...as we are seeing with the Democratic Congressional caucus. Check the actuarial tables and forget about (b) in this state.
As for a big deal blowup--we're not there, quite yet. And by the time it occurs, most of the people who could put the state back together will be elsewhere, happily making untaxed money and living in truly affordable houses.
Here's how the end begins: The 2030 census shows Oregon in a no-growth or possibly a population decline. Even if Oregon has had some growth, states like Florida and Texas are growing at a much faster rate. And in 2031 Oregon loses a House seat. For a preview, look for the Census annual estimates in December.
Now consider commercial and residential real estate developers: Why would they want to invest in Oregon? Developers can read the Census stats too.
Federal funding: That’s determined by the Census. Doesn't matter if there's a D or R in the White House. There's a formula and the Census supplies the numbers.
Agree with your first point Kent, I've had no success with point two. Thus my discussions with my few acquaintances on the left only get shallow conversation topics.
I always thought Gamba's rather arrogant generalization of Oregon voters was off the mark. To accuse the majority of Oregon voters of petulance would be to imply a perverse, obdurate consideration of the issues declared by our "protectors" to address the general good. Rather I would describe that majority as developmentally delayed, special needs folks that just don't learn fast or much. Hopefully this time I'm wrong.
welcome to the Welfare State, AKA the Nanny State. You don't have to work anymore, all those rich capitalists will pay for you... until the last of them finally wise up and leave this economic trash heap. Then what?
Voter ID, one day voting, stop mail in ballots.

It would be almost too perfect (or just perfect enough) if Representative Gamba was hoisted on his own petulant petard. Let us pray.

Mr. Gamba should moount his bicycle and pedal off into the sunset. The sunset just west of Seaside.
Outrage permeates with no relief in sight

Numbers will be especially bad if all the Chinese drivers licenses are exposed and ICE continues to do its job.
Stop mail-in Voting and try to convince your Democrat voting friends why they are so wrong on almost everything these days. Good luck.

Performance art. Democrat speciality for generations.
That bike guy? He's overbooted
